What is the New World Otter?

Welcome to the New World Otter, where humor and World Domination walk hand in hand. It is the vehicle of the web-comic Day-To-Day. It is also home to the insane ramblings and rants of a madman named Ryan (that’s me), with occasional appearances by his friends.

The main goal is to entertain you with humor, games and other fun stuff like that there. But, there will also be attempts to get your synapses firing with various intellectual stimuli. Worry not, I’m not here to bore or nag, just rant till I’m blue in the typeface.

The NWOt is in a state of constant flux… as new ideas abound, there is no telling where it can and will go. Even this intro will change eventually. The only guarantee we make is that we will update at least once a week on Monday, but hopefully more frequently as time goes on.

And it’s pronounced N-W-Ot (En double u, ot), not N-W-O-T…. just so you know.

What is Day-To-Day?

Day-To-Day was a comic strip I did in college for my college’s newspaper, the Pauw Wow begining back in 1999. It was a good run, lasting about 4 and a half semesters. The reason I called it "Day-To-Day" was simply for the fact the paper came out every other week. That and also no one was really sure how long I could keep it up (including me), thus it was on a "day-to-day basis".

Now that I think about it, the name also represents the format; to which there was none… it could be different from day to day. Yes well, I don’t see you coming up with anything better.

Anyhoo, here it is on the web, digitally enhanced for maximum groan-boo-and-hiss-ability. I’d like to thank my friend Warren who supported the whole comic thing throughout its school daze. I hope not to disappoint.

What’s with the Otter?

Well first of all, the otter is a cool animal. It is a symbol for swiftness and cunning, as well as and levity. And, despite their mischievous nature, they are seen as a great ally to mankind.

In India and a few other places, the otter is the fisherman’s assistant. When nets are cast, otters are let loose into the water and begin to chase schools of fish into the nets. Quite useful in my opinion; and they do it for mere fish. In mythology (there’s some of that intellectual stuff), otters have been known to save lives or become mediums for greater spirits. A good site for more info is Amblonyx’s otter site.

As for the New World Otter, it’s a spin on the term New World Order, which is the globalization of the Earth (usually in a corporate sense). Now before you all go turning off your monitors, I am not against making money and I like Wendy’s; however; there is a limit to everything. More on that later, but if you are interested go see Adbusters.

Why are there so few questions?

We’re young yet… give us time. Ask a few. Go on, I know you’re confused.
