A Brief History of NWOtR

The story of New World Otter Radio begins in the classroom. In the winter of 2003, the NWOt’s founder, Ryan, on his second academic tour of duty took a radio production course to fulfill requirements for a degree in communications. In addition to learning the archaic arts of splicing magnetic audio tape and queuing vinyl to follow station identification came the essay “New World Otter Radio?”

This brainstorm sowed the seed for the NWOt to attempt to over extend itself and become a multimedia empire rather than mere blogs and comics produced by two nitwits.

The first incarnation was a midi jukebox that auto-played uncontrollably on a hidden frame. This was decried as a bad idea by web 2.0 zealots and anyone with ears.

The second incarnation was a page of streaming mp3 playlists, available to anyone with Windows Media player. After a few hundred web hits from the RIAA’s servers, we decided to scrap that idea all together.

Version 3.0 flipped the format to talk radio, spawning the briefly lived podcast called “Fortnight Tonight” – an audio version of Ryan’s Otterz & Endz, which, as the name implied, theoretically occurred every two weeks. 1 and half years later and only 4 episodes produced, the idea was put on indefinite hiatus.

But now, with the help of Live365 and it’s streaming audio servers and contracts with all sorts of litigious royalty companies – New World Otter Radio is reality! So, go on… hit the play button. It’s free to create a login and enjoy… not only our station but thousands of Live365 radio stations.
