Flashback: Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays – It’s For You
Today’s selection come from Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays. “It’s For You” is a smooth, relaxing jazz track from their 1981 album “As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls.”
In addition to it being a nice calming song (something of dire need these days), it’s got a nostalgic bend to it… at least if you’re from a certain age range from a certain geographic region.
Lately, it had become stuck my head for some reason, though I couldn’t figure out where from. Then after days of going down the YouTube rabbit hole, I found it.
It was the background music to the old NY/NJ WWOR channel 9 Community Calendar. Every morning it would air, then lead into such re-run classics as “Who’s the Boss” and “Perfect Strangers,” as well as syndicated classics like “Out of this World” and “My Secret Identity.” If you were ever snowed in or sick from school in and around the NY Tri-State, this was the pregame entertainment before that universal panacea – The Price is Right!
Why it became an earworm decades non-exposure to it, I dunno.
But, even if it doesn’t make you as nostalgic as me and/or have no idea what a WWOR is, you got to admit “It’s For You” is a nice tune at any rate.
